[PLEASE NOTE: You must have installed or patched up to 1.9.5 first]

Hi y'all

I've managed to track down the cause of the majority of performance issues. For the technical, apparently Guids and Hashtables don't mix. Converting the Guid to a string results in a massive performance leap. You'll see what I mean.

I now have all the monsters and feats loaded from you know where and the app starts up in a few seconds. Delete, Undo etc. are all similarly improved.

I've also added in serialization of the foreign key lookup upon exit. So even though the first time you start up will be significantly quicker. The second time will be MUCH quicker than that Smile

There's also a host of bug fixes as well as Max Out functionality in the skills panel, improved performance in the levelling wizard and the aforementioned turbo thread loading in the feats panel.

Oh and the rules viewer now loads up a LOT quicker too! Although not as quick as I could make it but I'm moving back onto templates now.

Hurrah!

THIS IS AN ALPHA - Please back up your existing .exe and database FIRST!!!

(Then just replace your existing .exe)

Get it here: 2.0.0 ALPHA 2.EXE

Template functionality is not ready yet, but I figured you'd want to play around with this for sure!!!!

Let me know of any bugs/crashes as this is an alpha and I have made some drastic code changes.

[Deleted prior posts notifying me of dll problem]

Ok, just uploaded a new one. There was a slight version mismatch with the skybound dll you have and the one i have. I have rebuilt with the old one, should be good.

My apologies.

There will be bugs in this, so let me know

Win XP Pro SP3

Much faster load time . . . seconds rather than minutes Very Happy
Switching between characters is also much faster
I will play with it a bit more throughout the weekend . . . after the mother-in-law leaves Evil or Very Mad

Much MUCH faster loading time. Went down from about 15 min to about a minute!

Do you think you cna post a list of what the various bug fixes and additional features are? That way we can test them.

Whoo! Frumple's right. No more being able to walk away and grab something to eat while you wait for it to load. Importing stuff seems to be quite a bit quicker, too. Excellent stuff! Very Happy

Damn thats a HUGE difference in speed! I even decided to import two rather large data sets and flipping from one list to another has no delay!.

I've been slacking on the RPG front of late but a friend is planning on starting a Kingdoms of Kalamar game soon so will try and get some data entered under the alpha .exe to check for bugs. All running smoothly atm.

I couldn't agree more, both systems I have (one with everything) load much faster, switching between characters, monsters, spells etc . . . faster !

Absolutely fantastic !

Alpha continues to remain impressive--dramatic improvement in load times even on the desktop, whose xml folder is stuffed full of dataset goodness.

It did sort of choke on an export of a 10th-level multi-multi class wizard, but there's a bunch of crap for it to process. Did you add any thread management? It looks like the process is using both cores. And the memory usage seems to have capped at ~470MB, which seems to be an improvement.

...export looks like it took about 2 minutes, which I'm thinking is still an improvement. Oddly, after the export memory usage jumped ~15MB. Still much lower than I've seen it.

Good news.

No threading for general running of the app only in the Feats panel and Feats Editor on the character. Possibly what you are seeing is a stray thread. Did you perhaps check this just after closing the wizard?

Glad to hear about memory usage. One of the things I changed was the way the panels are instantiated which is now much cleaner.
